Position Title: MRI Tech

Position Description: Inpatient Friday and Saturday Either E/N or 7p-7a. Must have Siemens exp. Reports to MRI Manager or Chief Imaging Technologist/Immediate Supervisor. Performs Diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging of organs, organ systems and blood flow studies. Provides radiologists with images necessary to obtain diagnostic results so that a comprehensive diagnostic report is available to referring physician. Orients physicians, residents, staff and student technologist in objectives and applications of magnetic resonance imaging and safety. Assists nursing staff in area e.g. witnesses nursing staff in wasting medication and documents in Pyxis. M-F no weekends. ARRT (R) (MR) and CPR via AHA COMPETENCIES: A. Education: Requires completion of an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, which normally is acquired in a two-year college or technical school program. Prefer one year experience in an imaging modality. B. Knowledge: Requires extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes with emphasis on neurologic, orthopedic, and cardiac physiology. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to the position, as well as aseptic and sterile techniques. Requires knowledge of the physics involved to perform magnetic resonance imaging exams, as well as the use of all equipment necessary to obtain and document a complete examination. Effective communication skills to interact with patients, physicians and other personnel. C. Skills: High levels of analytical skills and critical thinking skills are required to perform appropriate scans based on the patients’ history and protocol. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills for instructing and orientating patients, physicians, medical staff, and students. D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: ARRT (R) (MRI) certified or ARMIT with current registration required. BLS via AHA required. E. Work Experience: Prefer magnetic resonance training program experience with clinical internship or one year of clinical imaging experience.

The MRI Technologist uses magnetic resonance imagingscanners and related equipment to capture specific images ordered by aphysician to aid in patient diagnosis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine andextremities on patients of all ages effectively adjusting scanning parametersfor different patient body habitus. Selects and modifies technical factors to enhance images; uses flare andSAT imaging techniques

  • Determines appropriate equipment for scanning up to but notlimited to body coils

  • Must be able to closely follow a physician’s instructions,prepares and operates MRI equipment, position patients correctly andeffectively record the requested diagnostic images

  • Identifies gross pathology in the human body and adjusts T1 andT2 scanning parameters to provide pertinent information for interpretation.

  • Performs Diffusion studies, MR Angiograms, reformats and MIPimaging

  • Uses magnetic resonance and adjusts parameters to minimizeexposure to patient and self

  • Follows established protocols and uses scanning techniquesto include, window and contrast levels, scanning time sequences, scanningdelays, scanning thickness, FOV, scout images, reformatting, images reconstructand 3-D image reconstruct.

  • Photographs, archives and retrieves images

  • Performs quality control for procedures and equipment. Documents systems failures and variances inthe appropriate logbook and arranges for service when necessary

  • Certified to start and remove IV lines for contrast studiesper established departmental policy and procedure. Identifies and responds to IV contrastreactions up to and including calling emergency personnel

  • Proficient in the use of an IV Contrast Power Injector

  • Identifies each patient, reviews each patient's requisitionand previous studies for consistency

  • (examination ordered/clinical diagnosis), and recordspertinent data on MRI requisition at all times

  • Responsible for performing comprehensive screening ofpatients and other individuals before allowing them to enter the MR system room

  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presentscompleted examination to radiologist, and communicates pertinent data topersons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure

  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images andensures proper film identification on all images

  • Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies andprocedures

  • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in the radiology field

  • Registered with the ARRT; if required by state regulationsor contract specification.

  • One (1) one year of experience in related field preferred

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
