Position Title: MSP RN
Position Description: Bayview Medical Center - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Labor & Delivery, will float to perinatal Required: RN License; Two plus years L&D experience, , BLS, ACLS, EFM (from NCC), NRP and Stable On-call: 1 shift (12 hour) every 6 week schedule Nights, every other weekend, holidays as needed per unit
The Labor and Delivery nurse assumes responsibility andaccountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery ofpatient care in the L&D Setting. TheLabor and Delivery nurse demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments inan effective and efficient manner with supervision.
The labor and delivery nurse works with Mothers during thefinal stages of pregnancy helping with birthing, monitoring the Mother’s vitalsigns, and becoming astute in signs and symptoms of possiblecomplications. The labor and deliverynurse is involved in patient education and addressing the psychosocial needs ofMothers after delivery and demonstrates critical thinking and performanceability in the coordination of patient care. Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountablein managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patientcare.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care
Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocialchanges in the patient’s condition
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
Plans for expected outcomes of care for those patientsassigned
Performs interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patientenvironment
Uses clinical judgment in the evaluation of activities to meetpatient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing priorities
Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipment
Promotes interpersonal relations withpatients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare coworkers, andphysicians
Uses effective communication skills with all contacts whilebeing objective and sensitive
Communicates pertinent information about patient, nursingunit, and activities as appropriate
Monitors vital signs for the mother and baby
Administers medication as ordered
Monitors contractions and fetal heart rate
Identifies complications during labor and delivery
Communicates the mother’s condition and needs to thephysician
Coaches the mother during labor and delivery and providesemotional support
Caring for the mother after she gives birth
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.?
One year of Labor and Delivery clinical experience withinthe last three years preferred.?
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
