Amergis Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (School) in Greenfield, California

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant assists the SpeechLanguage Pathologist in providing speech and language services. The SpeechLanguage Pathologist Assistant will have clinical, educational, documentation,and treatment related activities while working within the scope ofresponsibilities/ plan of care assigned by the Speech Language Pathologistand/or physician.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides components of a speech and language program asspecified in the treatment plan developed by a supervising SLP in accordancewith the physician’s plan of care according to state regulations

  • Self-identifies as SLPA to families, students, patients, anddistrict staff

  • Assists the SLP with speech, language, and hearingscreenings without clinical interpretation

  • Assists the SLP during assessment of students, exclusive ofadministration and/or interpretation

  • Assists the SLP with bilingual translation during screeningand assessment activities exclusive of interpretation

  • Provides timely and accurate documentation of studentperformance and reports this information to the supervising SLP

  • Programs and provides instruction in the use of augmentativeand alternative communication devices

  • Demonstrates or shares information with students, families,caregivers, and staff regarding feeding strategies developed and directed bythe SLP as State Practice Acts permit

  • May adapt educational materials and equipment for thepurpose of providing intervention and/or meeting the student needs

  • May serve as an interpreter for students, and families whodo not speak English

  • Provides services under the supervision of the SLP inanother language for individuals who do not speak English and English-languagelearners

  • May assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materialsand scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP

  • Cleans and maintains equipment used in the field inaccordance with manufactures guidelines

  • Reports reaction(s) to treatment or change(s) in conditionof the student to the supervising SLP and alternate clinical designee asindicated

  • Maintains communication with the district and otherpersonnel caring for the student to assure that their efforts effectivelycomplement each other and support the objectives outlined in the plan of carewithin the scope of practice

  • May participate in formal care conferences, parentconferences, and intra-disciplinary team meetings only with the presence of thesupervising SLP

  • Supports the supervising SLP in research projects,in-service training, public relations programs and marketing programs

  • Provides information to emergency response agencies forindividuals who have communication and/or swallowing disorders

  • Promotes early identification and early interventionactivities

  • May present primary prevention information to individuals orgroups known to be at risk for communication disorders

  • Exhibits compliance with The Health Insurance Portabilityand Accountability Act (HIPAA) and

  • Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act regulations

  • Actively participates in the required supervision by a SLPto ensure quality of care to all persons served

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of a SLPA program with an associate’s degree,or have a bachelor’s degree in a speech-language pathology or communicationdisorders program

  • Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours ofsupervised field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent asrequired by state and/or contract

  • Current certification or licensure as a Speech-LanguagePathology Assistant in the State of Practice

  • Must comply with accepted professional standards andpractice

  • One (1) year of prior professional Speech-Language PathologyAssistant experience preferred;

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competencyprogram

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
